FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS IT?
tiny rollerbladers. just kidding. Microblading is a technique of cosmetic tattooing performed specifically on the eyebrows. Like earlier methods of cosmetic tattooing, it is done by manually depositing pigment into the second layer of the skin (dermis). But what makes it truly unique is the hand tool used. The unique formation of needles allows the artist to create the look of real eyebrow hairs by tattooing very fine hair-like strokes in the skin.
DO I SHAVE MY EYEBROWS OFF?
No! Microblading is done to enhance what you already have to make the eyebrows look as natural as possible. Microblading is a great solution for people who have over-plucked their eyebrows, or who have naturally very thin/light eyebrows and want to accentuate the look of eyebrows on their face. It is not necessary, nor recommended for a client to get rid of any natural hair he or she may already have.
EEK, WILL IT HURT?
Because you are numbed prior to the procedure, the level of pain experienced can be minimized, but in all honesty, there is definitely some discomfort involved. The best way to describe the discomfort felt during a microblading procedure would be similar to that of a continuous cat scratch. The skin near the front of your eyebrow is thicker, so this will likely be a lot less painful than the tail of your eyebrow. The tail of your eyebrow sits very close to the temple, where the skin is very thin. The thinner the skin, the more likely you will experience a higher level of discomfort. That being said, everyone's skin and pain threshold is different, but during the procedure, there shouldn't be a point where the pain becomes unbearable.
I'M IN. WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Typically an appointment will be 2.5 to 3 hours. You will be comfortably laying on your back throughout the procedure. Thankfully, our estheticians are great conversationalists so you won't be bored. On a scale of 0 - bear mauling, expect to experience 1-2 rated pain.
I'M DONE AND LOOK AWESOME. WHAT NOW?
Following your appointment, you may experience tenderness, redness, pinkness, darkening of the area. Expect moderate to thick scabbing 3-4 days after the procedure which will flake off anytime between days 5 - 10. After scabs flake off, pigment color and strokes will look light, grey, and blurry but will return to full color when fully healed.
WHATS MY HEALING TIMELINE?
Just like a typical skin wound, microblading takes about 10 - 14 days to heal before it can get completely wet without disturbing the skin or the healing process. This includes heavy exercise and sweating, showering, and face down swimming. The area will be fully healed 30 days after the procedure was done.
WILL I SCAR?
No. Microblading itself will not cause scarring. What can cause scarring after a microblading procedure is picking at the healing skin. This is why it is extremely important to make sure your client knows to NOT pick at any scabs or flaking skin after they have had a microblading procedure. Picking could result in the loss of pigment as well as scarring.
DOES WAXING HURT?
Well it doesn't tickle. Based on client feedback and our own experience, the first time is always the worst - simply because the hair roots are at their strongest and thickest. By waxing every 4-6 weeks (different for each person), roots do not have time to become as strong or thick and waxing will become less painful. For folks with sensitive skin, we suggest popping a pain reliever 20-30 minutes before waxing to make your experience more comfortable.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY WAX?
For most waxing newbies, the build up of expectations can be the worst part! Most of our first-time clients tell us the pain was not nearly as bad as they anticipated. Some clients do experience mild redness, tenderness, some swelling, more so with individuals who have sensitive skin or low-pain tolerances.
WILL I BE TOTALLY HAIRLESS AFTER MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
It could happen, but most likely not. It is most common to feel a bit of stubble after your first few appointments. This happens most frequently with clients receiving leg waxes, those who have coarse or dark hair or have a history of shaving. Human hair grows in concurrent cycles which determine length, texture and thickness. Because these cycles last about 28 days, it takes a few appointments for all hair in any area to grow long enough to be completely removed by the wax.
HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO BE?
Most people need about 3-4 weeks of growth for hair to be long enough to wax. Anything before 2-3 weeks will likely not be substantial enough for removal and will be a waste of your time and money.
WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE? DO YOU DOUBLE DIP?
We use a variety of rosin-based strip and hard waxes that are safe for all skin types. And NEVER A DOUBLE DIP!!! New stick for EVERY dip, NO exception!
CAN I WAX WHILE PREGNANT? WHILE ON MY PERIOD?
Go ahead Momma! However, it is not uncommon to be more sensitive and experience more in-grown hair during this exciting time. And for our monthly visitor, if you don't mind, we don't mind! Please note that you will most likely be more sensitive and we do ask that clients to both freshen up and have a new tampon before your appointment.
WHEN SHOULD I GET WAXED IF I HAVE A SPECIAL EVENT // VACATION COMING UP?
We recommend you plan in advance and get waxed at least 2 times prior to your upcoming event. This is especially true if you have never been waxed before, or are waxing a new area. This is beneficial so all of your hairs will be in the same growth cycle and also to see how your body reacts. Other than that 2 days prior will be perfectly fine.
